Steinbryggja - Vilborg Dagbjartsdóttir

Listen to readings of poetry by Vilborg Dagbjartsdóttir. Vilborg (b. 1930) published her first book of poetry in 1960 and at that time she was one of a few women in Iceland to write modernist poetry. She has since become one of Iceland's most celebrated poets.

Vilborg was an important figure in the history of feminism in Iceland, as she was one of the founders of Rauðsokkahreyfingin (Red-Stocking-Feminists) in 1970, and had a seat at the centre of the movement.

She has published a number of poetry books and her poems have also appeared in literary magazines and collections in Iceland and abroad.
