The new year will be celebrated in Reykjavík, a UNESCO City of Literature, with poetry readings from dawn to dusk on January 1st 2020. The readings will be in Gröndal's House in the heart of the old town.
Twenty one poets will celebrate poetry and light, language and nature, humanity and the universe, each in their unique way. The readings start when the first light of the new year starts to seep in at 10:03 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. when it is dark again.
Gröndal's House is the former home of poet and natural scientist Benedikt Gröndal, now run as a literay house by the Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature. It stands on the corner of Fischersund and Mjóstræti in the city centre.
The poets and the City of Literature welcome all to this celebration of a new solar year, whether for a short visit or a longer stay on New Year's Day. Most readings will be in Icelandic.
