Þórey Friðbjörnsdóttir

Bio

Þórey Friðbjörnsdóttir was born on January 17, 1960 in Sævarland on Skagaströnd in the north of Iceland, but grew up in Reykjavík. After graduation from highschool in 1980 she studied law at the University of Iceland and finished a diploma there in 1984. In 1986 she completed a B.A. in English from the University of Iceland, and in 1991 a one year program in Education, leading to the Teacher's Certificate.

Þórey has worked for Statistics Iceland, The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, and taught at the primary school in the town of Reyðarfjörður. She has taught language and literature at the teenage-department in Hlíðaskóli in Reykjavík since 1994, as well as writing and translating.

Þórey's first book, the teenage novel Aldrei aftur (Never Again), was published in 1993. Her third book, Eplasneplar (Apple Snips), received the Icelandic Children's Book Award in 1995. Þórey also published a novel for adults, Spegilsónata (A Mirror Sonata) in 2000. She has translated a large number of books from English.

Þórey lives in Reykjavík.
