Sverrir Norland

Bio

Sverrir Norland was born in Reykjavík in 1986. He has a BA in law and creative writing from the University of Iceland, and an MA in creative writing from Middlesex University in London. He lived abroad for many years, first in London and then Paris and New York but now lives in Reykjavík.

Sverrir's first book Suss! Andagyðjan sefur! (Shh! The Muse is Sleeping!) came out in 2006 and since then Sverrir has published a number of books, including the novels Kvíðasnillingarnir (The Anxiety Experts, 2014) and Fyrir allra augum (In Front of Everyone, 2016). Stríð og kliður (War and Murmurs, 2019) is a personal exploration of technology, creation and the climate crisis. Sverrir manages AM Publishing along with his wife Cerise Fontaine, and has translated and published children's books by authors such as Maurice Sendak, Pénélope Bagieu, Tomi Ungerer and Junko Nakamura. In 2019 Sverrir received a recognition by three literary festivals (Cuirt, Vilenia, Festival of World Literature) as an upcoming author to watch from a minority language region in Europe ("Emerging Writer on Tour").

Sverrir has been a regular literary critic for the televison program Kiljan since fall of 2019 and in fall of 2021 he hosted "Bókahúsið", a literary podcast managed by publisher Forlagið. He has sat on the judging committees for poetry award Maístjarnan and the Icelandic Audiobook Prize. Sverrir sits on the board of IBBY Iceland, as well as the Mál og menning member's council.

And last but not least he was chosen "Hlíðaskóli's most likely to succeed" in 2001.
