Eysteinn Björnsson

Bio

Eysteinn Björnsson was born in Stöðvarfjörður in the east of Iceland on the 9th of January, 1942. He moved with his family to Siglufjörður in 1954, completed college in Akureyri in 1961, and further studied Icelandic, English, and geography at the University of Iceland until 1967. In 1984 he studied English literature at Trinity College, Dublin, and in 1988 received his Cand Mag degree in English Literature from the University of Iceland. Eysteinn taught in schools throughout Iceland until 1991, when he retired to focus on his writing. His articles have appeared in newspapers and magazines, and he has served as both a writer and producer of television and radio programmes.

His first book, the novel Bergnuminn (Possessed), was published in 1989. Thereafter others followed, as well as short stories and collections of poetry. Among recognitions of his work, Eysteinn´s story The Whale took second prize at the International Literary Competition and was included in a foreign collection.
