Reykjavík City of Literature at Reykjavík Culture Night

Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature hosts three events on Reykjavík Culture Night, August 18, 2012. The program takes place at the new Reykjavík Concert and Conference Centre by the Reykjavík harbour, Harpa. There will be poetry and prose reading, music, stand-up and talk, the overall theme being the many faces of literature in this city.  The program is open to all and free of charge. Program: Cheers Reykjavík , Cheers 2:30 pm Seven Reykjavík writers read poetry and prose about Reykjavík. The band Bókbandið also plays music to lyrics dedicated to the city. The writers are Kristín Steinsdóttir, chairman of the Writers' Union of Iceland, Sigurður Pálsson, Vigdís Grímsdóttir, Eiríkur Guðmundsson, Þórdís Gísladóttir, Bragi Ólafsson and Sjón, chairman of the Reykjavík City of Literature board. Swingdudes and Vampire Faces 4 pm A fun program with music, stand-up, talk and reading, celebrating the upcoming Reykjavík Reading Festival in October 2012. Singer Fríða Dís Guðmundsdótti and band, comedian Bergur Ebbi, scholar Hjálmar Sveinsson and actor Tryggvi Gunnarsson. Intercultural Poetic Dialogue 5:30 pm Poets of different origin, residing in Reykjavík read their poetry in several languages. These poets worked together in a translation workshop in the spring of 2012 where they translated each other‘s peotry between several languages. The poets are Mazen Maarouf (Palestine, Lebanon), Juan Camilo Román Estrada (Columbia), Harutyun Mackoushina (Armenia / Syria), Kári Tulinius (Iceland), Þórdís Björnsdóttir (Iceland) and Iréne Gayraud (France). Texts by Elías Portela (Galisia) and Aðalsteinn Ásberg Sigurðsson (Iceland) will also be read. [gallery link="file" order="DESC" columns="4" orderby="title"]
