Gunnar Hersveinn

Gunnar Hersveinn (Sigursteinsson) was born in Reykjavik on March 28, 1960. He graduated with a B.A. in philosophy and psychology in 1986, and finished his studies in journalism in 1995. He has also done gender studies at the University of Iceland.

Gunnar Hersveinn has published a few books of poetry, written a play and has also sent forward some non-fiction books, among them Þjóðgildin (National Values), published in 2010. Alongside his writing, Gunnar has worked as a journalist for Morgunblaðið newspaper, been a teacher, both in highschools and at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and worked for the City of Reykjavík.

Gunnar Hersveinn has received some awards for his writings on social issues, for instance the prize Ljósberinn in 2004 for his articles on pedagogy, peace, educatioin and ethics. He was nominated for the Icelandic Journalism Award in the same year for his writings about equality, pedagogy and education and in 2010 he was honoured for his books about Icelandic social issues.
