Emil Hjörvar Petersen

Bio

Emil Hjörvar Petersen was born in Gothenburg, Sweeden, on May 7th, 1984. He moved to Reykjavík two years later and from there to Kópavogur where he grew up. He completed a B.A. in comparative literature – minoring in Icelandic and creative writing – in 2007. After that an M.A. in Practical editorship and theory of publication in 2009. He moved to Sweeden and lived there for ten years, competing an M.A. in Literature-Culture-Media from The University of Lund, 2011.

Emil is one of the founders of Icecon – an Icelandic festival for fantasy and science fiction, starting in 2016. He has been prominent in advocating fantasy and science fiction, in lectures and talks, and workshops, notably in cooperation with Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature. He has in particular focused on the importance of writing fantasy and science fiction in Icelandic.

For the past few years Emil has dedicated his time to writing. He has published both poetry and novels. Alongside he has worked as an editor and lecturer. He has edited fiction, written study programs and given talks about fantasy and science fiction, at home and abroad.
